Speech Day

7 July 2021

This year's Speech Day, held on Wednesday, 7 July in our lovely marquee on the South Lawn, was rather different to our normal Speech Days.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions and the Senior School students being out of school, the event was attended only by staff members. But nothing was going to dampen our spirits and the grand marquee, filled with sparkling cups, stunning floral arrangements, and staff eager to celebrate the many successes of the school over the past year, made a fitting venue for this very special event, which was live streamed to families at home so that everyone could enjoy the celebrations.

Following an opening speech by Bellevue Education Director David Williams and a heartwarming address by Headmistress Ms Higson (the 'algae-smeared blazer' story was a highlight!), prizes were presented to students across a wide range of categories, to celebrate the achievements of Senior School pupils in a multitude of different fields.

As the afternoon drew to a close, we enjoyed a speech by Kate Kaye, a former pupil and now junior doctor, who returned to Farlington to inspire students with her story of triumph over adversity. Huge thanks to Kate for taking the time to  deliver such a wonderful, thought-provoking speech.

We then heard from Head Students Amelia and Ellen, who could not be there in person but were certainly there in spirit thanks to a lovely speech they had written, read out by Mrs Higgs in their absence.

Finally, presentations were made to those members of staff who are leaving us this year, all of whom will be greatly missed by everyone at Farlington.

Against all odds (this was not Plan B , or even Plan C - but Plan D!), we had a wonderful Speech Day that was, as always, a fitting celebration of everything that the Farlington community has achieved over the past - highly unusual - year.
