THE SIXTH FORM ADMISSIONS PROCESS
Whilst many students join Farlington Sixth Form from our Senior School, we also welcome students from a diverse range of local state and independent schools, as well as those from further afield who make the most of our weekly or full boarding options.
Our Sixth Form entry requirements are typically for students to achieve a minimum of five GCSEs, including grades 5 or above in English and Maths. In some situations, it might be possible for a student to join Farlington Sixth Form on a retake progrmme for one core subject, if the facilitating grades from Sixth Form subject options have been achieved. Each Sixth Form subject specifies its own minimum GCSE grade requirements for enrolment.
The Farlington Sixth Form admissions process is outlined below.
STEP 1: Sixth Form Open Evening
During the Summer Term, we welcome Year 10 students to a Farlington Sixth Form Open Evening, for a first introduction to all that Farlington Sixth Form has to offer. Our Open Events provide the opportunity to hear about the Farlington Sixth Form experience from current students and staff.
STEP 2: Registration
If you would like your son or daughter to be considered for a place at Farlington Sixth Form, please complete the registration form in your prospectus pack as soon as possible, and return it to the Admissions Department. Please note that, whilst this ensures that your child will be considered for a place at Farlington Sixth Form, it is not a guarantee.
STEP 3: Getting to know you
Once registered, the following takes place:
• Pathway Planning Meeting (PPM)
All applicants receive an invitation to a PPM with our Head of Senior School, Penny Hart, as part of the admissions process. These meetings take place from the Autumn Term of Year 11 onwards.
• Sixth Form Experience Day
During the Autumn Term, we invite Year 11 applicants for entry in the following September to attend a Farlington Sixth Form Experience Day. This provides the opportunity to try A-Level classes, meet current students, and get to know the Farlington site and facilities. The day concludes with a subjects fair, with the chance to speak to specialist staff about subjects of interest.
• Reports & References
We use school reports and specialist reports (should there be any), together with references, to ensure that Farlington Sixth Form is the right fit for your child.
STEP 4: Offer
On completion of the PPM, an appropriate offer will be made, together with a deadline for acceptance.
