Today Year 2 enjoyed a Polar Explorer Day to round off their topic on ice.

Working in teams of four - Team Husky, Team Seal, Team Penguin and Team Snowy Owl - students participated in activities including:

  • The Farlington Polar Bear Hunt - we followed clues to track down the elusive Farlington polar bear
  • Cooking - we made delicious polar mints and decorated polar bear cupcakes
  • Map reading - we searched the grounds for eight polar map symbols and worked out what each one meant
  • Blubber experience - we placed our hands in icy water and then did the same with 'seal blubber' around our hands, to experience the benefits of blubber
  • An igloo-building challenge - working collaboratively in our groups, we designed and built igloos using marshmallows, cocktail sticks and icing sugar 'glue'

Lots of fun was had by all, and the students demonstrated some excellent teamwork skills. Well done Year 2!
