Excitement was in the air at Farlington this week as students from the Lower and Middle Schools gathered for the annual Poetry Recital finals. This much-anticipated event showcases the incredible talent and passion for poetry amongst Farlington's young learners, encouraging them to express their creativity and hone their public speaking skills.

The path to the finals was paved with dedication and hard work. Students from both the Lower and Middle Schools participated in preliminary rounds, with all students encouraged to participate, from our youngest in Reception, all the way up to our Year 8 students, all showcasing their talents and vying for a spot in the final.

Parents, teachers, and fellow students gathered to support the finalists as they took to the stage. The participants recited a wide range of poems, from classic works by renowned poets to original compositions penned by the students themselves. Each performance was met with enthusiastic applause, reflecting the audience's appreciation for the courage and talent displayed by the young performers.

As the event drew to a close, the panel of  judges were faced with the challenging task of selecting the winners. After much deliberation, ten students were recognised for their outstanding performances:

In the Reception to Year 2 category, Jude in Year 1 was awarded first prize for his lovely rendition of ‘Crocky Wock the Crocodile’, followed closely by Bonnie in Reception with ‘If Dogs Could Talk’ in second place, and Roxanne in Year 2 came in a close third with ‘Bubbles’.

The Year 3 and 4 category saw Florence in Year 4 being awarded first place with ‘Dad and the Cat and the Tree’. Lara in Year 3 came in second place with, ‘Mother Doesn't Want a Dog’ and Eddie in Year 4 came in a close third with his lovely performance of ‘I Wandered Lonely As a Cloud’.

Moving on to the Year 5 and 6 category, Calli in Year 5 was awarded first place for her wonderful performance of ‘Kids’ by Spike Milligan. Darcy from Year 6 was the runner-up in this category for her performance of ‘Mother Doesn’t Want a Dog’ by Judith Viorst.

The Year 7 and 8 category was the final round of the morning and saw Oliver from Year 7 take first place with his comical performance of ‘Don’t’ by Michael Rosen, with Annabel, also in Year 7, coming in a very close second with her rendition of ‘I Need to Do My Homework’ by Ken Nesbitt.

Congratulations to all of our students who took part in this wonderful competition, showing us that the love of the spoken word is alive and well here at Farlington!
