After what can only be described as a unique end to their Upper Sixth year, followed by the controversy over how grades would be awarded, students at Farlington School have been able to celebrate another set of impressive A-Level results.

In a year where examinations were cancelled, students’ hard work and commitment across the two years of their course were recognised through the submission of Centre Assessed Grades (CAGs). Examination Boards standardised these grades against the national cohort and through the use of the school’s historic results as part of the algorithm, produced the final awarded grades.

The grades achieved by the Class of 2020 are testament to their hard work, resilience and strength of character as they negotiated the challenges of the latter part of the last academic year. Whilst our students have missed out on the sense of satisfaction of high performance in formal examinations to mark the end of their school lives, the school has been delighted with the grades awarded by the exam boards.Yet again, Farlington students received a 100% success rate in their A-Level results, with 62% achieving grades A*/A and 80% achieving A*- B. But as every school will attest, Results Day is not “just” about the headline percentages. Behind each of these lies the story of individual students who have, with the support and encouragement of staff both this year and throughout their school lives, achieved beyond their expectations.

"Given the uncertainties of this last academic year and the disruption to their study and revision, this cohort of Upper Sixth students deserve these excellent results more than ever," says Headmistress Louise Higson. "The whole year group deserves the highest praise for their positive approach to this highly unusual final year of school. I am so happy that their hard work, and that of their teachers, and their resilience in the face of such challenging times have been recognised."

"I am also delighted that the vast majority of our students have secured places at their first-choice universities, and will be setting off to a range of university destinations to study an exciting and diverse range of subjects."

The Farlington Class of 2020 will be taking up places at universities including Bristol, UCL and St Andrews, following a variety of courses including English, Psychology and Law. We are, as ever, equally proud of each and every student.
