During a Student Council meeting before Half Term, the Lower School pupils expressed a wish to host a House event. So today we met in our Houses and the pupils suggested activities that we could take part in together. Dressed in their House colours, children from Reception to Year 4 then rotated around a carousel of fun tasks.

Parks

Pupils in Parks House designed their own pumpkins and created some effective observational drawings. The children worked together beautifully, helping each other with their designs and trying hard to earn their House some points for effort, creativity and presentation.

Luther King

Luther King teachers tasked the children with a newspaper fashion challenge. The children were put into groups of five or six, then had to design and create an outfit that could be worn and exhibited on a catwalk. Armed with only newspaper, Sellotape, masking tape and scissors, the children were given 30 minutes to come up with their finished costumes before a mini fashion show was held. Everyone got stuck in straightaway and the children were very enthusiastic. We were so impressed by the wonderful teamwork that took place, and the amazingly creative outfits that were created.

Hawking

The challenge set by the Hawking teachers was to complete a treasure hunt, taking pupils to a final surprise. Each House was split into four teams. They were given their initial clue in the classroom, then off they sped around the school to find all the clues that would lead them to the final mystery. The final clue was a 'number sentence' to which the children had to work out the answer. The answers then had to be put into a combination lock – in the correct order – to open the treasure chest. We are pleased to announce that all teams successfully managed to crack the code and receive a portion of the treasure!
